Alvin Chao-Yu Chen, born on August 31, 1963, in Cha-I, Taiwan, is a distinguished figure in the field of orthopedic surgery. The journey into medicine commenced at China Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan, where Dr. Chen pursued the medical education 1981-1988. Postgraduate careers include military service residency 1988-1990, orthopedic residency in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital 1990-1995 and subspecialty fellowship in Massachusetts General Hospital 2001-2002. Orthopedic visiting staff starts since 1995, through various academic positions and becomes Professor in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and University. Dr. Chen's professional engagements extend beyond clinical practice. He has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations, assuming leadership roles such as Executive director of AOTrauma Asian Pacific Board and Country Council, Executive Director of the Taiwan Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Executive Director of the Taiwan Shoulder and Elbow Society and Executive supervisor of Computer-assisted Orthopedic Surgery. During 2010-2012, Dr. Chen serves as the 11th President of Taiwan Society for Surgery of the Hand, and a senior consultant afterwards. An avid researcher, Dr. Chen has authored an impressive number of journal articles, with over 136 publications to his credit. His research covers a wide array of topics within orthopedic surgery, including hand surgery, shoulder and elbow injuries, knee reconstruction, and bone healing processes. Recent publications demonstrate the ongoing dedication to advancing the field, with studies ranging from arthroscopic diagnosis techniques to innovative surgical approaches and cutting-edge technologies. Dr. Chen's contributions have not only enriched the scientific community but also enhanced patient outcomes and treatment methodologies. With the multifaceted expertise, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions to orthopedic surgery, Dr. Alvin Chao-Yu Chen continues to leave an indelible mark on the medical landscape, both in Taiwan and beyond.

Jan Ragnar Haugstvedt is born in Norway and finished medical school in Oslo in 1980. He has a specialty in general and orthopedic surgery as well as in hand surgery. He has more than 20 years of practice from Oslo University Hospital where he performed general hand surgery, lots of micro- and reconstructive procedures as well as congenital cases (national center). He had a fellowship in 1997-1998 at the Biomechanics Lab at the Mayo Clinic, USA, where his main focus was on the distal radioulnar joint. This was also the topic of his thesis.
He is now working in private practice in Oslo, Oslo Hand Center (an IWC Center), at C Medical, downtown Oslo. He is past President of the Norwegian Society for Surgery of the Hand (where he is an honorable member), past President of the Scandinavian Society for Surgery of the Hand, past Secretary General of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS) and is the current chair of the Teaching committee of IWAS. He has written papers mainly on ulnarsided wrist problems, has authored some 20 book chapters and has served/serves as a reviewer/on the editorial board of different journals. -

Dr. PC Ho graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1987. Ho is the former Chief and currently a Consultant of the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology in Prince of Wales Hospital, as well as the Clinical Professor (honorary) of the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His main research interest is on Hand & Wrist Arthroscopic Surgery. Others include congenital hand differences, rheumatoid hand, paralytic hand reconstruction and microsurgery. Ho was the President of the Hong Kong Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2008-2010. In 2012, he was awarded the Whipple Prize for recognition of his distinguished contribution in wrist arthroscopic surgery. In 2015 he was appointed as the President of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (2015-2016) as well as the Founding President of the Asia Pacific Wrist Association (2015-2017).
His academic honors included: Overseas Visiting Expert in Orthopaedic Surgery to Singapore in 2012, Moberg Lecturer at the 24th Scandinavian Hand Society Meeting in 2012, Robert A. Chase Visiting Professor to the Stanford University in 2014, Joshi Oration for the Indian Hand Surgery Society in 2015, Invited Lecturer to the 88th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association in 2015, Honored Professor to the Philadelphia Hand Rehabilitation Foundation in 2017 & 2022, Plenary Speaker of 11th APFSSH Congress 2017 in Cebu, International Guest Presenter at Australian Hand Surgery Society ASM in 2021, Buck-Gramcko Lecturer at 62nd Annual Congress of German Hand Surgery Society in 2022 and as the keynote speaker in numerous national hand surgery and orthopaedic societies including Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Australia, Argentina, USA, France, Romania, Poland, Estonia and Germany and Portugal since 2002. He has made 151 scientific publications (97 in wrist surgery), taught in 129 cadaveric courses of 26 international centers, and delivered 149 local & 671 international lectures in 107 cities of 38 countries worldwide (including 103 webinars). He is the director of the Hong Kong International Wrist Arthroscopy Workshop and Seminar since 2008. -

Sanj Kakar, MD is Professor of Orthopaedics, past Vice Chair of the Clinical Practice Committee within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Associate Dean and the Medical Director for the Digital Platform within Continuous Professional Development and Accreditation of Clinical Services at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota and Immediate Past President of the Minnesota Orthopaedic Society. A graduate of St. Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, he received his surgical training at University College London, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and The Royal Free, before completing his Orthopaedic Residency at Boston University, Boston. After receiving his Master’s in Business Administration from Babson College, he completed his Hand Surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Kakar is a specialist in disorders of the hand and wrist, in particular, arthroscopy, complex wrist reconstruction, trauma and sports injuries. He is a surgeon scientist studying with Dr. Zhao and her team on the role of four-dimensional CT scanning on wrist kinematics. Dr Kakar has authored over 220 peer reviewed scientific papers, 45 book chapters and co-editor of four orthopaedic textbooks in the Hand and Wrist. He is principal investigator on several translational research grants, received the Marshall Urist Young Investigator award from the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, a member of the Emerging Leaders Program and a recipient of the North American Traveling Fellowship and American British Canadian Fellowship by the American Orthopaedic Association and the Sterling Bunnell Traveling Fellow from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and a past Member at Large, both on The Council for Research and Quality at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Society for Surgery of The Hand. He currently serves as the Editor of Hand.e, the Digital Education Platform of the American Society for Surgery of The Hand. -

Early in his career as a surgical trainee, Professor Christophe Mathoulin MD, FMH was the recipient of the prestigious gold medal award at the Hôpitaux de Paris, which earned him the opportunity to join the renowned practice of Professor Thierry Judet. He transitioned to the department of orthopaedic surgery at the Tenon hospital from 1987 to 2002 under the leadership of Professor Thierry Judet, where he began as chief resident and later joined the faculty for the next 15 years. In 1988, he also became a member of the Institut de la Main, a premier hand center in Europe developed by Professor Raoul Tubiana and Professor Alain Gilbert. He currently remains as an Honorary Lifetime Vice-President of Institut de la Main.
Professor Mathoulin is an Orthopaedic surgeon with specialization in hand/upper extremity surgery and microsurgery. He is an internationally recognized specialist in wrist surgery, and has developed techniques for minimally invasive surgery, wrist arthroscopy and microsurgical vascular transfers.
He is recognized as a prominent leader in the field with contributions through his clinical experience, research, lectures, and publications on wrist surgery. He has delivered more than a thousand lectures, has performed hundreds of live attended and recorded surgeries, has contributed to more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, and has served as chairman for more than 200 national and international specialty meetings.
He is the founder of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS), the first international society dedicated to teaching and research dedicated to wrist arthroscopy. This society continued to evolve to become the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society (IWAS), and Prof. Mathoulin is currently an Honorary Lifetime President and Founder of IWAS.
As Founding-President of the International Wrist Centers (IWC) and IRCAD-IWC, he is currently active in IRCAD-IWC teaching (wrist arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy and ultrasound guided procedures) at the multiple prestigious IRCAD centers worldwide. These include France, Taiwan, Brazil, Rwanda, China, USA, and India.

Dr. Jong Woong Park, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Korea University Medicine, SEOUL, KOREA. Prof. Park received his MD degree from Korea University in 1989. He continued his education with a Ph.D. in Medical Science from the same institution in 1998. He completed his internship and residency in the department of orthopedic surgery at Korea University Anam Hospital from 1990 to 1994. He then completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the same institution from 1997 to 1999. Dr. Park also finished a research fellowship in the department of orthopedic surgery at Duke University in USA from 2002 to 2004. Dr. Park has been a full-time faculty at the College of Medicine Korea University since 1999 and is currently a Professor at the Korea University Medicine.
Dr. Park has been certified and licensed by the Korean Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Korean Board of Hand Surgery, the Korean Board of Sports Medicine, and the Korean Board of Traumatology. He has served as a president of the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Korean Fracture Society, and the Association of Korean Peripheral Nerve Surgery. He is also a member of the AOTrauma faculty and the International Bone Research Association
Dr. Park's research interests include bone and soft tissue reconstruction, bionics and human-machine interface, innovative bio-medical material and device development, peripheral nerve reconstruction and regeneration, and ischemia and reperfusion injury. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and 22 book chapters in these areas and presented his work at many national and international conferences. -

Dr. Shalimar Abdullah currently works as a Hand Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Hand & Microsurgery Unit, Department of Orthopaedics, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Nottingham, England, UK and completed her orthopaedic training in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2005.
In 2007, she began training in hand surgery and received her Fellowship in Hand Surgery from the prestigious Kleinert Institute, Louisville, USA in 2010. She also received the Diploma of Hand Surgery (FESSH exams) in 2012.
Her interest is in Nerve, Tissue Engineering, Brachial Plexus, and WALANT. She is part of the Nerve Team in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Center in UKN and is in a project to produce the perfect nerve conduit. She is also a proponent of WALANT surgery both in soft tissues and bony fixation. She is a committee member for the Malaysian Society for Surgery of the Hand (MSSH). She has published up to 70 articles to date. She is also active with a humanitarian NGO named Mercy Malaysia holding the post of Vice-President and has responded to many humanitarian crisis. -

Alexander Y. Shin, MD received his BS degree in Chemistry in 1986 from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. He completed his MD degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1990. After completing a one-year surgical internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, he served as the Regimental Surgeon for the 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in 1996 and pursued a Hand and Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He returned as the Chief of Hand Surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego between 1997 and 2002.
After completing his Navy Service, he returned to the Mayo Clinic and was the Hand Surgery Fellowship Director between 2007 and 2017.
Dr Shin has an academically rich career with over 500 peer reviewed publications, 60 book chapters, and numerous presentations at both national and international meetings. He is the former Director of Education for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and has been a national and international leader in hand surgery education and research. He is the recipient of a RO1 NIH grant on basic nerve sciences. His interest in clinical and basic science research has led to advances in hand surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, microsurgery, vascularized bone grafting, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, and the treatment of complex wrist pathology. -

Melanie is a hand and wrist surgeon from Sri Lanka.
She is the first woman to be an orthopaedic surgeon in the country.
Following her training in Sri Lanka, then she completed the International Surgical Training Fellowship in the United Kingdom sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons England. She also completed the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) fellowship in hand and wrist surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and a Clinical and Research Fellowship in Upper Limb Surgery at the Flinders Medical Centre, South Australia.

She has been a resource person and delivered lectures for the teaching webinar series organised by the British Hand Surgery Society (BSSH) global partnership program.
Melanie has published many peer-reviewed research papers, and book chapters and delivered many scientific presentations at international meetings, including invited presentations. She was the keynote speaker at the scientific sessions of the Sri Lankan Hand Surgery Society 2022. She is passionate about teaching junior colleagues and continue to teach medical and allied health students at Flinders University and the Adelaide University, South Australia.
